Important Notification for EWS Category Students : JEE Main 2019

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important notification for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category students applying for (or have appeared in) the JEE Main 2019 examination.

Candidates under the EWS category can now mention their category in an online application form which will be available in the JEE Main portal. The online form will be made available on the official JEE Main website (jeemain.nic.in) from 11th March to 15th March 2019.

“As per the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II dated January 17, 2019 issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the OM No. 12-4/2019-U1 dated 17.01.2019 as well as the Letters No 35-2/2019-T.S.I dated 21.01.2019, 01.02.2019, 04.02.2019 and 15.02.2019 of MHRD Department of Higher Education regarding implementation of reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) for admission in Central Educational Institutions, it is necessary to identify the candidates belonging to EWS category from amongst the candidates of JEE(Main) January and JEE(Main) April 2019.

What Does it Mean?

According to the official notification the candidates of JEE Main 2019 (January & April) who come under the EWS category now may mention such category in the online application form. To be eligible to mention the category, the candidates must come under the EWS category as per the certificate issued by a competent authority.

It is not compulsory for the candidates to upload the EWS certificate in the JEE Main portal. Though it will be compulsory for candidates to upload the certificate while applying for JEE Advanced 2019.

Benefits

The NTA has taken this step under the directive of the MHRD Department to implement reservation for the EWS Category students. Candidates under the EWS category will now get reservations for admissions in Central Educational Institutes.

Aspirants looking forward to JEE Main 2019 examination will have to visit the official website to register online. The last date to register for JEE Main 2019 on 7th March 2019.
