JEE Main 2020: Paper 1 Analysis

JEE Main 2020: Paper 1 Analysis

NTA conducted Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) of JEE Main 2020 today in two sessions – Morning and Afternoon or two shifts – Shift 1 and 2. The exam was conducted across the nation, in the designated centres. The morning session was held from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM and the afternoon session was held from 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM.

As the exam pattern was changed by NTA this time for JEE Main 2020, students had mixed expectations from the exam. Let’s understand the difficulty level, subject-wise questions and more in this blog. Read on:

Morning Session Paper 1 Analysis – Shift 1 (9.30 AM to 12.30 PM)

As per the early analysis, the morning session exam was moderately difficult. Chemistry was found to be comparatively easier than Mathematics and Physics. Most of the students attempted all integer or numerical value questions as they didn’t carry any negative marking.

In Chemistry, most questions were NCERT-based and were from Organic Chemistry section. For Physics, Thermodynamics and Wave Optics were the main topics. In Mathematics, questions were asked from Co-ordinate Geometry.

Major takeaways from the morning session:

Following are the major subject-wise topics that were covered in the exam:

Physics Mathematics Chemistry
Electrostatics Circles Atomic Radius of Elemets
Resistance Geometry Dipoles
Thermodynamics Integration Chemical Bonds
Modern Physics Functions Orbitals
Wave Optics Probability Quantum Numbers

Afternoon Session Paper 1 Analysis – Shift 2 (2.30 AM to 5.30 PM)

Those who appeared for the afternoon session found the exam to be moderately difficult, just like the morning session.
In the Chemistry section, the questions were mostly from Inorganic Chemistry. Mathematics had most questions from integration and differentiation, mostly from Class 12th. Physics had an equal share of questions from 11th and 12th.

Major takeaways from the afternoon session:

Following are the major subject-wise topics that were covered in the exam:

Physics Mathematics Chemistry
Doppler Effect Coordinate Geometry Thermochemistry
Rotation Conic Section Coordination Compounds
Current Electricity Integration PH questions
Modern Physics Circles and Tangents Orbitals
Newton’s Law of Cooling Probability Quantum Numbers

Conclusion

Overall, as per the analysis of Paper 1, it was found to be moderately difficult and easier the previous year paper. It’s a good thing for the students who appeared for the exam.

However, there’s one thing to be remembered – JEE Main 2020 will be held in April as well. Those who couldn’t quite perform well in the January attempt can opt for taking the exam in April too.

Practise is the key to crack JEE and you can always practise by taking myPAT’s mock test to boost your preparation.
