Will JEE Merit List be Based on Percentile Scores?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is in news for quite some time now. Amidst all the speculations, here comes another one. JEE Main marking scheme is the new talk of the town.

What is the Fuss All About?

According to some senior officials of the HRD (Human Resource Development) Ministry, the merit list of JEE Main 2019 now will be prepared on the basis of percentile scores. Only the marks scored by an aspirant in both the attempts of JEE Main will not be considered while preparing the merit list for admissions or to be eligible for JEE Advanced.

Here is what the senior official had to say on the issue: “normalization procedure based on percentile score” as can be seen in the undergraduate-MBBS exam conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), to be used by NTA.

Further Exploring the Decision

The JEE Main 2019 will be held twice and in several sessions. Due to the very same reason, there might be parity in the difficulty level of the question papers of each session. Some set of aspirants might get difficult paper in a session and score low, as compared to the rest.

To lay down a level playing field, a group of experts from IITs, NITs, UGC, AIIMS and IASRI, have voiced the opinion of percentile-based scores and are looking to finalize the marking process for NTA JEE Main.
