5 Key Factors in Calculating JEE Main 2019 Score

With all the changes, JEE Main 2019 is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the first time. Around 1.8 lakh students took the JEE Main in the first shift of the exam on 8^th of January 2019.

The results of the January JEE Main examination will be out on the 31^st of January 2019. Many candidates are still confused regarding the scoring system of the exam and how will the percentile score be calculated.

To lay down a level playing field, percentile-based scores will be used to normalize the marking scheme.

JEE Main 2019: 5 factors in calculating the score:

• The scores are based on a scale of 100 to 0 for every session of the exam. The topper of each session will have a percentile score of 100 and based on it and the relative performance of candidates, the percentile scores will be alloted.
• The highest score in each session of the exam will be normalized with a percentile score of 100.
• In case of a tie, the scores will be settled in the following chronological order:
  • Candidates with the highest percentile score in mathematics.
  • Followed by candidates with the highest percentile score in Physics.
  • Followed by candidates with the highest percentile score in Chemistry.
  • If the scores are still tied, then finally the age of the candidates will be considered while allotting a rank. In this case, older candidates will be given the preference.
  • In case the tie persists then the candidates will be given the same rank.
• The JEE Main 2019 is being conducted in multiple sessions and the exam in April will be of a similar The scores of each session will be merged to compile the result of the January exam as well the exam in April.
• The better percentile score out of the two attempts will be considered for counseling, admission and to be eligible for the upcoming JEE Advanced.

The Final Merit List

The final rank list will be released online post the JEE Main exam in April 2019, on 30^th of April 2019. The scores of both the January and April JEE Main exam will be considered while preparing the list.

The Overall Process

The entire marking scheme is divided into 3 steps by the NTA:

• Maintaining the equal number of candidates (approximately) in each session of JEE Main.
• Compiling the percentile score for each session.
• And finally, preparing the final percentile score.
