As the month of March nears, many of the high schoolers, despite having worked hard throughout the year, tend to develop a phobia for the upcoming month. Though the class X exams are not very tough as compared to the competitive exams that a student would face in the future, these serve as a launchpad for a students’ academic career. For a JEE aspirant, scoring high in class X means kicking off the academic career on a positive note. On the contrary, the XII board exam is slightly tougher to score in. Especially for JEE aspirants, this entails an increased burden of scoring well in the exam along with practicing for the JEE.
As the old saying goes “Well begun is half done”, class X score is very important for raising your morale. And this pre-exam phase is very critical as you can up-the-ante in this phase and that can have quite a significant effect on your scores.
Passing criteria for class 10th
- It is imperative for a student to pass all the subjects with grade E or higher that translates to a score of 33% or more. The student should be able to meet this criterion in the first attempt or in the compartmental exams to be certified as having passed class X exams.
- Unlike many patterns, CBSE does not award any division, distinction or an aggregate.
- If a student fails to secure passing marks in 2 of the 5 subjects, he/she would be considered for compartment exams only if he/she has passed the internal assessment.
- A language offered as an additional subject may replace a language in the event of a candidate failing in the same provided after replacement the candidate has English/Hindi as one of the languages
For class XII students, it is a win-win situation if they manage to score good in board exams as well. This exam is also a very critical part of students’ academic career. Thus, if the student follows a concept centred approach, his/her hard-work in the class XII board exam will yield dividends in his/her JEE preparation as well.
Passing criteria for class 12th
- It is imperative for a student to pass all the subjects with grade E or higher that translates to a score of 33% or more. The student should be able to meet this criterion in the first attempt or in the compartmental exams to be certified as having passed class X exams. They need to secure 33% in each of the aspects i.e. theory, practical, and in aggregate.
- Unlike many patterns, CBSE does not award any division, distinction or an aggregate.
- If a student gets a grade better than E in all the internal assessments, only then will he/she be awarded a passing certificate. Failing in the same would lead to the result being withheld for a period which cannot exceed one year.
- A language offered as an additional subject may replace a language in the event of a candidate failing in the same provided after replacement the candidate has English/Hindi as one of the languages
Class X board exams
Well, it is a known fact that many JEE aspirants do not score well in the board exams. A huge sum of these marks is lost in the non-science subjects which are also less emphasized upon by the parents and teachers. But when seen critically, the non-science subjects have a weightage of 60%. These can surely play a decisive role in the class X score. Perhaps when you are applying for an Ivy league university abroad or if you are vying to prove your academics in the UPSC interview.
