Speculations about NTA conducting JEE twice a year has been making rounds for some time now.

Here was the previous official statement made by the HRD Ministry:

“National Testing Agency was approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2017 as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational Institutions.”

Finally, the wait is over and we have an official confirmation regarding the same from the Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) of the Government of India.

The HRD minister Prakash Javadekar made a big announcement today, stating that JEE Main and NEET will be held twice a year from 2019 in an online mode. It is now official that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will now be conducting the JEE Main and NEET exams, taking the reins from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Key Takeaways of the Announcement:

  • JEE Main and NEET will now be held twice a year in 2019.
  • JEE Main will be held in the months of January 2019 and April 2019.
  • NEET will be held in the months of February 2019 and May 2019.
  • JEE Main and NEET will be now completely online!
  • The HRD Minister also stated that the best score of both the exams will be considered for admissions.
  • It is not compulsory for students to appear for both tests.
  • The exam will be held on multiple dates and students can opt for the date they want to attempt.

Regarding the Syllabus and Fees:

Students can now stay rest assured, as the HRD Ministry has decided that the syllabus would remain the same. The fees to be paid for the exam has not been hiked either.

How to Prepare?

The statement by HRD Ministry further stated:

“NTA will establish a network of test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam,” This is a great initiative by the Ministry, as this service is absolutely free.

The biggest relief for students is that syllabus and other regulations that govern the JEE exam remain unchanged. Aspirants preparing and looking forward to taking the exam, can now breathe a sigh of relief. Since the exam is completely online, it is crucial for students to prepare accordingly.
