JEE Advanced 2019: Number of Candidates to be Shortlisted Increased to 2,45,000

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has released an official notification regarding the number of candidates to be shortlisted for the upcoming JEE Advanced examination.

This year, the top 2,45,000 candidates from the JEE Main 2019 (Paper-1) exam will be shortlisted for the JEE Advanced 2019 examination. Previously, the number of candidates shortlisted from the JEE Main examination was 2,24,000. IIT Roorkee has decided to increase the number of intake by approximately 9.3% from that of last year.

Some More Details

The number ‘2,45,000’ is not the absolute and total number of candidates who would be offered admissions may vary (may increase) in case of tied scores or ranks. As notified by the MHRD Ministry, this year a 10% reservation for the EWS category will be introduced.

JEE Advanced 2019: Eligibility Criteria

In the official notification, IIT Roorkee has also stated the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2019.

  • Candidates should be among top 2,45,000 in Paper-I of JEE Main 2019.
  • Candidates should be born on or after 1st of October 1994. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD category are eligible for a 5-year relaxation in the age limit criterion.
  • Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced maximum 2 times in 2 consecutive years. Candidates who have appeared in the JEE Advanced 2017 & 2018 are not eligible for this year’s examination.
  • Candidates should have appeared for class 12 boards (or any equivalent exam) for the first time in either 2018 or 2019.

Note: However, if the board declares the results for the academic year 2016-17 post June 2017, then the candidates are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2019, given they meet the other eligibility criteria. In Case, the board declares the class 12 results for the academic year 2016-17 prior to June 2017, but the result of a particular candidate was withheld, then the candidate will not be eligible for this year’s JEE Advanced.
