Well, the JEE has been modified with very high negative marks and new one-alphabet answer questions have been introduced which makes this highly awaited JEE Mock test very important. As there were apprehensions about the possibility of introducing short answer type questions (Read more on our blog titled Online JEE 2108: Short Answer Type Questions) and JEE exam getting difficult for few students (Read more on our blog titled Side Effects of Online JEE Advanced 2018), the mock exam seems to tackle both the contingencies very well.
Salient points
All the subjects have been divided into 3 subsections. All the subsections are different in approach and need to be handled slightly differently.
Thus the total sections of the exam are Physics Section 1, Chemistry Section 1, Math Section 1, Physics Section 2, Chemistry Section 2, Math Section 2, Physics Section 3, Chemistry Section 3, and Math Section 3.
While attempting the questions from each section, the student would be able to view the status of questions (Answered, Unanswered, Not Visited, and Marked for Review). The questions that are marked for review would be considered for evaluation if their response has been filled before the review. Thus, make sure to use the Clear Response button before marking a question for later review.
Also, the top right corner has a timer and test takers’ profile along with the list of questions from the section being attempted. This has been shown in the screenshot below.
Pressing the Submit
If a student presses the Submit key deliberately or by mistake, he/she is led to the screen shown below from where he/she can make the final confirmation of test submission. This penultimate screen shows the log of total questions and categorizes them into total questions, answered, not answered, marked for review, answered, marked for review, and not visited.
Pressing the Yes button from the above console would lead to exam submission and pressing No would lead the student back to the question paper.
Question types in Section 1
The section 1 in each subject consists of 8 questions each of which carries 4 marks and does not result in any negative marking.
These questions have been designed in a manner that their answers are single digit alphabet ranging from 0 – 9.
The answer needs to be typed using the virtual keyboard provided on the test console.
To proceed the student needs to press the second last button on the bottom right side named Save & Next.
The sample of these questions has been shown in the below screen. This section is highly recommended and student should try to solve all the questions as these are likely to be easier and have no negative marking. Also, the fact that these questions have answers only 0 – 9 makes them easy or predictable I comparison to coming sections.
Question types in Section 2
The section 2 in each subject consists of 8 questions each of which carries 4 marks and results in loss of 2 marks for a wrong answer.
The answer needs to be recorded by marking the checkboxes near A, B, C, and D.
To proceed the student needs to press the second last button on the bottom right side named Save & Next.
The sample of these questions has been shown in the below screen. These questions have been provided with 4 answers namely A, B, C, and D. The questions can have one or multiple correct choices. This makes each question have 15 possible options (A, B, C, D, AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD, ABC, ABD, BCD, ACD, and ABCD) and thus students need to be highly careful in marking all the correct options. Even marking few of the correct options would lead to -2 marks.
Question types in Section 3
The section 3 in each subject consists of 2 paragraphs/passage each of which has 2 questions. Thus the section 3 of each subject has 4 questions each having 4 marks and results in loss of 2 marks for wrong answer.
The answer needs to be recorded by marking the checkboxes near A, B, C, and D.
To proceed the student needs to press the second last button on the bottom right side named Save & Next.
The sample of these questions has been shown in the below screen. These questions have been provided with 4 answers namely A, B, C, and D. The questions can have one or multiple correct choices. This makes each question have 15 possible options (A, B, C, D, AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD, ABC, ABD, BCD, ACD, and ABCD) and thus students need to be highly careful in marking all the correct options. The students should prefer to take up the paragraphs in whose underlying concept he/she is strong. These questions can be wrapped up very quickly if the student understands the concept very well and solves the question entirely to figure out all possible answers.
In terms of complexity and risk, students should prefer the section 1, then attempt section 3, and finally the section 2.
