2018: JEE Chemistry – 90 Days to go

2 min read

Chemistry, as a subject, is one of the compulsory subjects for JEE aspirants and has an equal weight as Physics and Math. Though the application of Chemistry is minuscule for many engineers, they still need to score high on the subject. It goes without saying that the subject is highly essential for all the engineering as well as medical entrance exams. It is often noticed that students are proficient in Math and Physics but not so in Chemistry.

Chemistry preparation, in contrast with Math and Physics, is slightly differently oriented. It requires memorization and visualization besides clarity in concepts. Much more than other subjects, your Chemistry preparation plan should have a provision to revisit all the chapters and concepts. The best part of this subject is that it involves lesser calculations and is highly scoring if the concepts and equations are well brushed up before the examination. Our next webinar focusing on Power Tips to Ace JEE 2018 Chemistry would focus on these tips precisely.

Here are a few important tips recommended by experts for the JEE 2018.

  • Visualizing the subject: As compared to Math and Physics, Chemistry concepts are relatively easier but these need constant revision. Like, students would constantly need to visit the periodic table and probably memorize some critical elements and not to forget equations. Thus, sticky notes, flashcards and charts can come in handy to rescue you from last minute preparation woes and these can be easily made as you have enough time before the JEE Main 2018 date.

The same practice is useful for memorizing Chemistry for board exams as well.(Read more from our blog on How to manage board and JEE together and Essentials of Board Preparation)

  • Striking balance in all the sub-topics (Organic, Inorganic and Physical): JEE Chemistry is equally split into Organic, Inorganic and Physical chemistry and the marks distribution is often equally disposed. Thus, it is important to prioritize all three. While the Physical Chemistry has easy problems and requires formulae memorization, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry involves remembering the structures and equations which needs can be done through cards or charts.
  • Referring to NCERT: Much more than other subjects, taking the NCERT Chemistry textbook seriously can be highly rewarding for cracking the JEE Chemistry. It is a very important book and a majority of the topics required in JEE are covered in the NCERT very comprehensively. Thus, if you are preparing for your board exams concepts seriously, it will surely pay off in Chemistry as well.
  • Timed tests: While the previous year papers of JEE Chemistry are very easy sources to understand the pattern of questions asked in the JEE Main, you should try to give online mocks in a simulated environment. This is also helpful as it provides performance analytics for deeper insights. myPAT simulated tests are completely bespoke to the requirements of the JEE exam and can benefit students to a huge extent.
  • Use the internet: A lot of free videos, infographics or diagrams can be downloaded from the internet for free which can be used to revisit the concepts quickly and have a better understanding through visual depiction. You can identify such free resources and save the weblinks for quick reference.
  • Identify the recurring topics: This should be done before the commencement of exam season. You should check all the previous papers thoroughly and identify the concepts that are asked most. The formulae, Chemical Reactions, diagrams etc. from these chapters/concepts can be prioritized during the revision.

myPAT webinar on Power Tips to Ace JEE 2018 Chemistry would be centered precisely for students to make last time strategy. The webinar focuses on:

  • Memorization techniques
  • Adapting to online testing in Chemistry
  • Strategy for last 3 months
  • How to optimize time and prioritize key topics
