JEE Main 2019 Attempt Limit: The Clear Picture!

1 min read

Confused about the number of attempts you can take in the JEE Main 2019? Well, you are not the only one.

The Confusion

With JEE Main 2019 slated to be conducted twice by the National Testing Agency (NTA), many aspirants are unclear about the permissible attempt limit.

Previously, the maximum attempt limit for JEE Main examination was 3 consecutive attempts. This  led to the confusion as the examination in 2019 will be held twice and the candidates appearing for the 3rd time are unsure whether they can appear in both the JEE Main attempts (in January and April) or not.

Aspirants can now breathe a sigh of relief as the NTA has now cleared the air regarding the attempt limit.

The Official Notification

The official information brochure of the National Testing Agency (NTA) mentions no restriction on the maximum number of attempts allowed for the JEE Main 2019.

However, an aspirant needs to fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the JEE Main 2019:

  • The candidate must have qualified class 12 boards examination in 2017 or 2018 (for both the attempts of JEE Main 2019).
  • The candidate who is appearing for boards examination in 2019 will also be eligible for JEE Main 2019 (both attempts).
  • Fulfilling the above criteria will make a candidate eligible for the examination, irrespective of the number of attempts.
  • Candidates who have qualified class 12 boards examination in 2016 or will be appearing for boards examination in 2020 will not be eligible for the JEE Main 2019.

In a nutshell, one can attempt JEE Main a maximum of 3 times. Candidates appearing for the 3rd time will be eligible for both the attempts of JEE Main 2019.

The Age Limit

So, what else is different? The NTA has removed the age limit criterion for JEE Main 2019. Age is just a number now!

What Now?

The registration for the JEE Main 2019 (January) has begun and 30th of September 2018 is the last date to apply. Check your eligibility and apply for the examination on the official website: jeemain.nic.in
