NTA conducted Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) of JEE Main 2020 today, on 8th January in two sessions – Morning and Afternoon or two shifts – Shift 1 and 2. The exam was conducted across the nation, in the designated centres. The morning session was held from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM and the afternoon session was held from 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM.
We provided the analysis for yesterday’s exam, i.e., 7th January 2020 and we have the analysis for today’s exam as well. The difficulty level was a bit higher as compared to yesterday’s exam. Let’s understand the detailed analysis and major highlights of the exam. Read on:

Morning Session – Shift 1 (9.30 AM to 12.30 PM)
As per the early analysis, the level of the morning session exam was easy to moderate. Chemistry was found to be comparatively easier than Mathematics and Physics. In Chemistry, most questions were NCERT-based and were from the Inorganic Chemistry section. For Physics, Optics & Modern Physics and Mechanics were the main topics. In Mathematics, most questions were asked from Calculus and Algebra.
Major takeaways from the morning session:
- The exam was tougher than yesterday’s exam.
- Chemistry was easy, Physics had a moderate difficulty level and Mathematics was lengthy.
- In Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic questions were balanced.
- Overall, the exam covered syllabus from class 12th.
- Numerical Value questions were much easier than yesterday.

Afternoon Session – Shift 2 (2.30 AM to 5.30 PM)
Those who appeared for the afternoon session found the exam to be moderately difficult. In the Chemistry section, the questions were mostly from Organic Chemistry. Mathematics had most questions class 12th syllabus, while Physics had a lot of questions from Electromagnetism.
Major takeaways from the afternoon session:
- Most of the Chemistry questions were from NCERT and were easier.
- The Mathematics section was time-consuming.
- Numerical Value questions were easy in terms of difficulty.
- Physics was the toughest section out of the three sections.
- The overall syllabus was balanced when it comes to questions from class 11th and 12th.

Conclusion
Overall, today’s exam was found a bit tougher than January 7th exam. Students were of a different opinion about the type of questions asked. We hope that those who attempted the exam today gave their best and are hoping for a great percentile.
However, there’s one thing to be remembered – JEE Main 2020 will be held in April as well. Those who couldn’t quite perform well in the January attempt can opt for taking the exam in April too.
