With nearly 1.7 lakh applicants (and increasing) across the country, BITSAT is a highly competitive entrance exam for engineering hopefuls. To successfully crack the BITSAT and be a student at one of their campuses, it is important to know the BITSAT exam pattern well.
Unlike the IIT JEE, the BITSAT exam pattern is a little diverse and has ample opportunities that a student can leverage and boost his/her BITSAT score. Apart from the regular Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, the BITSAT exam syllabus also includes English and Logical Reasoning.
The BITSAT exam pattern has been developed in such a manner that it tests its students on a wholesome level. Before you start your preparation for the BITSAT, make sure you have all information about BITSAT’s exam pattern i.e. type and nature of questions, mode of paper, time duration of exam, the total number of questions, marking scheme, etc.
BITSAT has a total of 4 sections and is conducted online (CBT – Computer Based Test) for everyone usually over a period of 15 days.
Section | Subject | No. of Questions | Marks |
---|---|---|---|
I | Physics | 40 | 120 |
II | Chemistry | 40 | 120 |
III | Maths | 45 | 135 |
IV | English Proficiency | 15 | 45 |
Logical Reasoning | 10 | 30 | |
TOTAL | 150 | 450 |
All the questions in all four sections of the BITSAT are MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). For every correct answer, the student is awarded 3 marks, and for every incorrect answer, the student is awarded -1 marks. As such, there is no time limit to answer a question but the total duration of the exam is 3 hours.

But here’s the best part of the BITSAT – there’s a secret to scoring more – the bonus questions! If a student attempts all the 150 questions and still has time to spare, they unlock the bonus questions. There are 12 bonus questions, 4 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The bonus questions have the same marking scheme as the 150 questions before. But, if a student chooses to unlock the bonus questions and attempt them, then they cannot go back to the 150 questions from the main section.
