The perks of being an IITian is not unknown. Being selected to study in the most coveted engineering institute of the country brings about a quotient of pride, social status and the power to influence. And as Spiderman once said, ‘With great power comes great responsibility’.
IITians inspire
Not all are privileged or have the resources to be an IITian. While most of us sulk about the current education system in the country, some IITians have decided to take matters into their hands.
With the dream of bettering the society, a group of IIT-Delhi freshers took the initiative to help underprivileged students who dream to join IIT. These IITians have decided to provide free coaching to aspirants who cannot afford the fees of coaching centers or possess the resources required to crack the famed Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
What is the ‘Aarohan’ initiative?
A group of 30 students of IIT-Delhi has started an initiative called ‘Aarohan’ where they will coach IIT aspirants of class 11 and 12. Though the initiative was initiated in 2014, due to lack of promotions it wasn’t successful.
This time, with the help of social media, by distributing pamphlets and approaching around 15 government schools, awareness of this awesome initiative was spread.
Here are some insights
To maintain the quality of the teaching standards and benefit the aspirants, the willing participants, who wish to teach, need to go through an interview process, which is conducted by some senior students of IIT-Delhi.
The classes are now being conducted from 4 PM to 7 PM, 5 days a week. These IIT students take time out of their daily college schedule and manage their classes so that they can teach the underprivileged children.
The current state of the initiative
A total of 66 students have participated in the orientation programme of ‘Aarohan’ and the IIT students believe that this is just the beginning.
Most of these students don’t know the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, which is of paramount importance to crack IIT-JEE. This free coaching will begin with NCERT books and then based on feedback by the aspirants, further course of action will be taken, stated one of the IITian involved in the initiative.
This is a great initiative by these young IITians and our best wishes will always be with team Aarohan.
