Now that JEE Main 2019 (January) is underway, the first set of student reactions are pouring in. Over 1.8 lakh aspirant took the exam on 8th of January 2019, which was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the first time.
A lot of candidates who will be appearing in the coming shifts of the exam are anxious regarding this year’s JEE Main paper. Here are the first reactions, not just of students but of experts as well:
Student feedback
Most students who appeared in the first shift of the exam had to say that the paper was of difficult level. It has also come to notice that there were a few questions in the paper which were repeated from the previous years’ paper.
The subject wise analysis:
- Mathematics: More the reviews come in, it is clear that Mathematics was the most difficult segment in the paper. Many students found mathematics to be moderate to difficult.
- Physics: This segment was of the moderate level though many candidates have pointed out that the numerical problems in the paper were time-consuming.
- Chemistry: Chemistry, though was lengthy, was the easiest section in the JEE Main 2019 paper.
Some students have also expressed displeasure of JEE Main exam being conducted in the computer-based mode only.
Expert review
The experts have spoken! With all the changes made to the exam, it was expected by many for the paper to be easier than earlier. Experts opine that the difficulty level of the paper is constant when compared to that of the earlier years.
Coming to the cut-offs, experts feel that it would vary and there is a high probability that it may increase post the April examination. Whatever the case may be, pundits think that students scoring above 115 should feel secure and should be able to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Impact of Bharat Bandh
This year JEE Main began amidst a 2-day Nationwide strike called by Trade Unions. Candidates who were impacted by the bandhs, fret not, here is what a senior official had to say regarding the matter: “The exams will continue as per the schedule. If there are any genuine cases where students could not reach the exam center due to the bandh, we will consider the cases later.”
