iit jee age limit

The changes to the IIT-JEE examination in 2019 has been the norm. Amidst the changes comes another news, which is bound to cheer up lakhs of JEE aspirants.

So, what’s making the news?

The Supreme Court of India on 21/01/2019, in a verdict, has provisionally removed the age barrier to appear in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced exam. Candidates will have to qualify in the JEE Main 2019 to be eligible for the JEE Advanced examination.

The news came in just after the JEE Main 2019 (January) results were declared, bringing joy to the engineering aspirants. Last year in November, the apex court had removed the age barrier for the NEET UG exam and candidates who are 25 or above were made eligible to appear for the examination.

Some more details on the verdict

Prior to the apex court’s ruling, the candidates who were aged 25 and above were not eligible to appear in the JEE examination.

The current verdict states that the candidates who are aged 25 years or more will now become eligible to provisionally appear in the IIT JEE 2019 examination. The age restriction has been provisionally removed till the Apex court gives its final verdict.

Impact of the Verdict

The extent of the impact of the Apex court’s verdict is yet to be measured. As of now, the verdict will impact the students who would have qualified the JEE Main exam and will be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2019.

It is logical to expect that the Supreme Court’s final verdict will impact the age criterion for the JEE Main examination as well. Since one of the JEE Main exams is now over, it has to be seen whether the Apex court will remove the age limit criterion for JEE Main or not.

Conclusion

JEE aspirants should keep a close eye on the official JEE Advanced website (jeeadv.ac.in) for further details on the order. The exact verdict and its implications will be uploaded on the website soon.
