As the students prepare for another version of the prestigious KVPY exam for the year 2017, there is a lot of apprehension in many students as the exam is considered as one of the toughest competition in India. In fact, many experts say that the probability of a JEE Advanced qualifier being and KVPY scholar is less than the probability of a KVPY scholar qualifying JEE Advanced. Thus, it can be said that owing to the competition qualifying JEE Advanced is much easier than obtaining KVPY scholarship. KVPY 2017
The tentative date for the KVPY 2017 exam has been declared as 29-10-2017. The exam would be conducted in both online as well as the offline mode and the admit cards for the same would be available for download from the first week of October 2017. The second round of KVPY which consists of the interview would be conducted after the aptitude exam and its dates have not been disclosed yet.
History of KVPY
The KVPY examination was started in 19999 and is promoted by the Department of Science and Technology of Government of India. The exam has since its inception been held annually and its qualifiers are granted scholarships for pursuing basic sciences studies up to Pre-PhD level. Syllabus of KVPY
KVPY syllabus is one of the most asked questions about the exam. As it is a highly prestigious exam, the students are eager to know the syllabus and the question pattern. However, the reality is that the KVPY does not define any syllabus. The aptitude, as well as the interview, consists of any Science concept that the applicant may have had studied.
KVPY applicants under the category SA (class XI) can expect questions on any Math or Science concept that they have studied till class X. For SX and SB category, the students get equally from Physics, Chemistry, Math, and Biology from which they are required to attempt any three.
Application procedure for KVPY 2017

Steps for KVPY registration
- Visit the KVPY official website
- Go to the tab Online Application for KVPY and go to the ‘Registration’ option given there
- Enter the relevant personal and academic details (Name, DOB etc.)
- Create the username and password and save the same for future login
- Fill the KVPY form and upload scanned copies of required documents
- Make the payment (both online/offline options are available)
Exam Pattern
For the SA applicants i.e. the class XI students, Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the KVPY aptitude test consists of 15 and 5 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math. Students have no choice but to attempt all.
For the SX and SB applicants i.e. the class XII and XII pass students, Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the KVPY aptitude test consists of 20 and 10 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math. Students have a choice to attempt 3 sections in Part 1 and any 2 sections in Part 2.
Important tips
- Work on concepts
Concepts are considered to be the most important aspect of preparing for the KVPY exam which has a conversion rate of nearly 2%. Pattern-specific practice can be done from myPAT KVPY package.
- Practice problem solving
The biggest edge that JEE aspirants have in KVPY exam is the problem-solving approach developed while preparing for the JEE. Students should focus on numerical problems than simple theory questions.
- Strengthen fundamentals from good books
For strengthening fundamental concepts, NCERT books are considered to be the best. However, there are a few other books that are beneficial for JEE preparation as well. Check out these books from out blogs regarding important books for Physics, Chemistry, and Math.
- Maintain the documents required
Maintaining the documents is very important for verification in exams, interviews as well as the later phase if the student qualifies for the scholarship. Students should try to get their Aadhar card ready as it has become a very important document.

As the interview is said to have 25% weightage, students need to make sure to build research knowledge and try to explore the recent developments in field of science and technology.
